Although Ricerca generally dates its modern history from 1986, when a Swedish company acquired an existing research lab and renamed it Ricerca, Inc., the company’s rich chemical background actually goes back to 1961 when Diamond Alkali opened its research site at our campus in Concord, Ohio.
Ricerca was created as a research and development center with strong capabilities in analytical and process chemistry and toxicology, and was designed primarily to develop products for the agricultural industry. In 1990, the company was acquired by Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha (ISK) and gradually shifted its emphasis to providing pharmaceutical research services. In 2002, the company’s name was changed to Ricerca Biosciences to reflect our growing biology capabilities as well as our emphasis on biotechnology projects.
In 2007-2008 Ricerca Biosciences completed a $75 million financial restructuring in which three private equity firms retained ownership and provided a strong financial foundation to support growth.
Today, this privately-held contract research organization serves the preclinical research needs of several industries while remaining heavily focused on the biotechnology segment of the pharmaceutical industry. The success of Ricerca is attributed to great science and effective teamwork among its 300+ employees, who are committed to providing timely solutions to clients’ needs.
